DGAV collaborates with MARE – Polytechnic Institute of Leiria within the scope of the Embalagem do Futuro® Project

On January 8, DGAV took part in the event promoted by MARE – Polytechnic Institute of Leiria group of researchers, as part of the Packaging of the Future® project, on the development of natural extracts with bioactivities and functionalities for application in food and/or food packaging, which took place at the Cetemares Building in Peniche.

The introduction of natural extracts onto the market requires procedures at EU legislative level, namely authorization based on risk assessment, which are important in the context of the development of these projects, and some of the challenges faced by researchers in this context were presented.

DGAV presented the legal framework for the use of natural extracts in food products and/or packaging and the procedures for requesting authorization from the Commission.
