Packaging of the Future highlighted at the 6th Doctoral Congress on Engineering (DCE25)
The 6th Doctoral Congress on Engineering 2025 (DCE25) was held at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto between June 30 and July 1. DCE25 is a platform of excellence that allows doctoral students from different areas of engineering to present their research work in front of colleagues, researchers, teachers and professionals from the sector. At the same time, it is a unique opportunity for industrial, governmental and non-governmental entities to establish direct contact with a new generation of engineers committed to driving innovation and responding to societal challenges.

PhD students represent a unique combination of scientific rigor, creativity and resilience – fundamental skills for facing contemporary challenges. In addition, their preparation as future leaders includes the ability to collaborate, communicate effectively and think strategically in non-academic contexts.
Packaging of the Future, as part of the PPS led by the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, had a significant presence at this event, taking the opportunity to reinforce its visibility and relevance to this vibrant and multidisciplinary community. Various solutions developed within the scope of the project were presented, highlighting its dynamic and collaborative innovation capacity.
The project was also represented by three interventions in thematic symposia
- Judite Vieira, at the Environmental Engineering Symposium, with the paper: “Centre for Life Cycle Assessment and Sustainability (CLiCAS): Supporting the Packaging Sector Through Practical Solutions”;
- Paulo Novo, at the Materials Science and Engineering Symposium, with the theme: “The Packaging of the Future”;
- Telmo Fernandes and Carlos Ferreira, at the Electrotechnical and Computer Engineering (EEC) Symposium, with their presentation: “Talk: Order Tracking with Smart Packaging and Process Mining – The Case Study of Prozis”.
DCE25 was a privileged space to demonstrate the Packaging of the Future as an outstanding example of collaboration between Academia, Technology Centers (CTI) and Companies, highlighting the importance of multidisciplinary teams in developing more sustainable solutions in line with the demands of a competitive market.
